Partnership with the St. James Episcopal Church Pantry in Fordham
For decades we've been in partnership with the Midnight Run Organization, which provides food and basic necessities (toiletries and clothing) to the homeless in New York City. During the pandemic, we've been continuing our "runs" into the city in a way that is safe and smaller scale. After the pandemic, we'll resume our larger trips, which take place either Saturday night or Sunday morning about once a month.
The Children’s Village
The Children's Village in Dobbs Ferry works in partnership with families to help society's most vulnerable children become educationally proficient, economically productive, and socially responsible members of our communities. For over 30 years, St. James the Less has been involved in helping to fulfill this mission. Our multi-generational efforts include underwriting graduation expenses for the Greenburgh 11 School District; contributing to various outings including baseball, basketball, and football games, movies, and ice skating; providing holiday gifts from a child's wish list and baking cookies for all resident cottages. Additionally, individual parishioners have provided foster care, one-on-one mentoring, and tutoring.
The Westchester County Diaper Bank
Outreach and service to our community and the world is one of our primary pursuits as the Church of St. James the Less.
We are part of the Episcopal Diocese of New York, and in addition to our local work in the parish, we're a partner with the diocese in many initiatives throughout the region.
Diaper Need is a silent crisis with parents and caregivers often choosing between food, rent, or buying diapers. The Westchester County Diaper Bank provides diapers at no cost to families in need. The Junior League of Central Westchester operates the diaper bank and distributes the diapers through Social Services. St. James the Less runs several diaper drives during the year and assists in packaging diapers for distribution on behalf of the Diaper Bank.
