Children's Church School Resumes September 7!Join us for Church School at 10:30 AM Join us for Church School! Kids ages preK-4th grade begin with everyone in the main church, and after the opening prayer follow one of the clergy and high school interns to the nearby Great Hall for a lesson based on Scripture. We use the Storymakers NYC curriculum, and interactive, kid-friendly Episcopal Church School curriculum that is very popular with our families. Church School is taught and organized by our amazing team of High Schoolers, with Mother Eliza's guidance. Can't wait to see all the kids again! |

Last Sunday's Sermon
In last Sunday's sermon, Mo. Storm spoke about Jesus' decision to heal a woman on the Sabbath against the wishes, on religious grounds, of some around him. First cautioning against the common (and dangerous) assumptions Christians make about first century Jewish practice, she gets to the hard but timely message of the passage, as relevant for Christians as for other faith traditions: there is never a break from our religious obligation to help those in need. From the sermon: We live right now in a time when stepping up is so vital, that we have to be prepared to do it whenever and wherever we’re called. Food insecurity is a vital concern for millions across our country. People are being unlawfully detained and are scared. Basic healthcare is becoming more and more out of reach. It turned out OK (for now) for Soo, but other kids are being separated from their parents, with no warning and sometimes no access to legal help. Take a global view and I could go on: the famine in Gaza, the bombings in Ukraine … I’m sorry this isn’t a relaxing summer sermon. That in itself is an illustration of the larger point. There is no break from our Christian calling to be alert and responsive to the needs of the world.

An Important Security ReminderA Note from Mother Storm A friendly reminder to be suspicious of communications from me that are asking for something. Always check the email address (if it isn't "rector@stjamesscarsdale.org" don't reply). Know that I will never make vague requests for prayer, a meeting, or gift cards. Westchester clergy from wealthier communities often get phished, where made up email accounts are used to send out fake communications. Don't reply to these, and if in any doubt, contact me directly at my authorized email address or call the church office. Meanwhile, we're investigating the breach to see if there's anything further we can do to prevent this from happening. |
