Interested in Being Received or Confirmed in the Episcopal Church?

Inquiry Session This Sunday 11:30 AM

Note: Mo. Storm will leading an inquiry session this SUNDAY (11:30 AM) for questions about this process and/or simply about our church and our tradition, whether your not you'd like to take part in the bishop's visitation. Just stop by!

When people start attending St. James, or even after many years, they often choose to become more formally affiliated with the Episcopal Church. Everyone who gives financially and attends semi-regularly is an official member, but there are further steps adults can take.

1. Confirmation. If you've been baptized but not confirmed in the Episcopal Church, you can meet with the clergy, take a short course on the tradition, and be confirmed by the bishop at his visitation (April 19).

2. Reception. If you've been confirmed in another tradition (Roman Catholic, Lutheran, Presbyterian, etc.) you can be "received" into the Episcopal Church by the bishop at his visitation. This means having your confirmation recognized and received by our tradition.

3. You can simply be welcomed in a public way during church one Sunday, with or without the bishop.

All these are great ways to show commitment to St. James and the Episcopal Church, and people often find them to be very meaningful steps. Fill out the short form below if you'd like to know more and/or move forward. You can also talk to Mo. Storm on a Sunday.

Confirmation and the Bishop's Visit are Coming Soon!

Confirmation and the Bishop's Visit are Coming Soon!

Sunday April 19 + 10:30 AM Service

Our newest confirmation class is being confirmed by Bishop Matt Heyd in just two weeks! Be sure to be in church on Sunday April 19 to support them and their families. Adults interested in being received or confirmed, see the announcement just above this one and/or reach out to Mo. Storm at rector@stjamesscarsdale.org.

Sermons from Easter & Holy Week

Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter Day

Looking for one of the sermons from last week? On Maundy Thursday and Good Friday, Mo. Storm shared from some of the forgotten works in our church's library--one, a lovely meditation on the Eucharist from Brother Raymond Raynes, and the other, a meditation on Good Friday by a columnist who called himself "Simeon Stylites" after the eccentric desert father of the 3rd century. Both writings are nearly 100 years old, but ring very true in our current world. A favorite line from the latter work: "There is a continuing crucifixion going on."

On Easter Day, Mo. Storm shared from another piece of writing, which she has found very foundational in her own understanding of the resurrection and what we do on Easter Day. All three sermons can be found on our church website's sermons page at the link below, in both written and video form.

LAST CALL for our Intergenerational Pilgrimage

LAST CALL for our Intergenerational Pilgrimage

Friday-Monday + October 9-12

There are limited spots for our upcoming pilgrimage to Upstate New York, where we'll be taking part in a "delegation" of parishioners to various towns to visit the homes and workplaces of the many migrant workers who live in our state. Organized by Rural and Migrant Ministries, this is a trip you won't want to miss. We have just 20 spots, so sign up as soon as you can. For ages 6th grade and up. Priority will go to pledging members of St. James.
