This Weekend at a GlanceFor the Weekend of Sunday October 18th Well, we had quite a day last Sunday! Pledging members of the parish should have received my member email on Tuesday about the church floor and our next steps (if you don't receive those, please let me know). For this announcement, just be assured that we can and *will* worship in the church this Sunday for both services. Beyond that, we have a fairly regular weekend at St. James: Sunday services at 9 & 10:30, Children's Chapel at the 10:30 service, and our first confirmation class for the new year on Sunday evening. The Gospel reading for Sunday is Jesus' famous line to "render to Caesar what is Caesar and to God what is God's," always a fun one for the preacher to wrap her mind around not to mention make meaningful to our daily lives. Among other things, I plan to speak about the priorities we set in our lives, as well as reflect on our pilgrimage to the Canadian border. So come if you want to hear how I will possibly weave all that together! And besides, we have great music planned for the 10:30 and, of course, the joy of all being together. Looking forward to seeing everyone on Sunday --Mother Storm + |

Children's Chapel This Sunday
Children's Chapel takes place weekly on Sundays at 10:35 am. More than a new name (and mascot! pictured above), this is a fresh way for our youngest members to worship together during the first part of our Sunday Holy Communion service. Kids will gather for a short, joyful liturgy filled with prayer, song, and stories from the Bible—then dive into hands-on formation activities that bring the day's lesson to life.
Chapel is led by our High School interns, with support from our clergy. Victoria, our music director, will be teaching our Cherubs a new song each month to be shared at the 10:30 am. service!
Children's Chapel takes place during the first half of the 10:30 am service. Everyone begins worship together, with the kids leaving after the opening Collect and returning for Communion.

Last Sunday's Sermon "Where Is God?"
In last Sunday's sermon, Fr. Daniel talked the anxiety of the Israelites and the golden calves we build when we feel God is not present. From the sermon: Where is God? This is a question we might sometimes ask in wondering, but has an acute urgency in times of anxiety or crisis. Because it’s in those times we want something firm to cling to. When we are buffeted by the storms of the world, here is something to which we are firmly tethered. And there may be moments when the Spirit of God feels close, present, as near to us as the person next to us in the pews. When we can feel the Spirit’s breath on our neck, or moving through us, or moving through all that which surrounds us. And there are times when that Spirit might feel like vapor. A gas that has escaped up into the atmosphere. Inaccessible. Distant. Everywhere and yet, nowhere. And so what happens in those moments? Well, sometimes we make golden calves.
