Annual Spring Appeal

Annual Spring Appeal

Help Keep St. James Healthy and Thriving!

Our Annual Spring Appeal is wrapping up! We've been hearing from members of the vestry about the importance of giving financially to our church. In the Episcopal Church, WE sustain everything we do with our financial gifts. This is partly what makes Episcopal churches so vibrant.

You can start giving any time during the year, which makes you (along with participating on Sundays) a full member of the parish.

See the link below for loads of info about giving: how much people give, what the average pledge at St. James is, what it costs per family to run our church, and more. On the budget (link through) you can use the QR code to access the pledge card to express your intention. You can also go to our website's giving page and set up a recurring gift. We'll acknowledge your gift and add your name to the list of faithful supporters of St. James!

Last Sunday's Sermon

In last Sunday's sermon, Mother Storm linked the Pentecost event in the Early Church to those times in our lives when we're guided back to hope, and purpose following a shattering life event. From the sermon:

We don’t think much about the disciples’—and again I don’t just mean the twelve but all the others, and there were more—grief following the crucifixion. The confusion. The locked rooms. It’s all there in the Scriptures if you pay attention. There’s a looming question in the latter part of the Gospels and beginning of Acts: how will they ever recover, what will they do next, and with what strength? How do people move on when their world’s been shattered?

That’s today’s story. Pentecost reminds us that there’s always a life force that returns, not always as dramatically as here but sometimes, and carries us out of our isolation and grief, helping us stand up again, speak again, and be once more in the world.
