"For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord." — Romans 8:38-39

If 1 Corinthians 13 ("Love is patient, love is kind") has become the wedding reading, then this week's lesson from St. Paul's Letter to the Romans has similarly become a favorite for funerals. And it's easy to see why. I found myself going to these very words during my time as a chaplain intern at a nursing home in Rockville, Maryland. On one of the secure wards for residents with dementia and other cognitive challenges, I met a man who was convinced that he was going to face God's punishment for the things he had done in his life. But he wanted to know what I thought. I told him what Paul was convinced of. There's nothing we or anyone, or anything can do that will separate us from God's love. Grace is offered to us regardless of our good works, or whether we have fallen short. Paul's words were offered to a persecuted church in Rome, one under the threat of imperial violence, but they are offered to all of us in moments of distress or uncertainty. Nothing can or will separate us from God's love revealed to us in Jesus. May you rest in that this week.  — Father Daniel

The Fordham Pantry continues to operate throughout the summer.

All are welcome to help us pack 300+ grocery bags for the food insecure in the neighborhood of our partner parish, St. James Episcopal Church in Fordham. To be added to the email distribution list for this ministry (where you'll receive reminders and occasional updates), click the button below and we'll add you to our list.

Both services continue throughout the summer, but the 9:00 am will move out to the churchyard for the months of July and August. Join us in this beautiful setting for a simple, familiar service with scripture readings, homily, and Holy Communion.

Church School is adjourned until September; however, we will have clipboards (during the outdoor service) and plenty of Scripture-themed coloring sheets available every Sunday, and kids are welcome with parents to use the table in the Great Hall during the service as needed (things will also be set out there--arts, crafts, coloring sheets and Scripture-themed games). We want our families with us all summer long, so be assured you'll always find here a welcoming environment for little ones!
